Health Literacy Remains Focus in 2008 In keeping with its mission statement of "providing educational opportunities to meet the challenges created by cultural change and immigration in southwest Missouri," Ozark Regional Alliance will focus its efforts in 2008 on projects that support improving health literacy. The board will look at programs and partnerships that will provide education to southwest Missouri residents in a format that is easy for all audiences to understand. It will seek to empower individuals to make positive decisions that enable a safer, healthier and more informed life. The board will continue to develop a module learning system that combines health and safety information from a variety of credible sources and includes such topics as basic literacy, disease prevention, immunizations, hand washing, fire safety and more.     News The National Collaboration for Youth releases a guide that offers information on the immigrant youth experience and practical tips. Por Tu Familia provides Hispanics/Latinos with information about the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Numerous resources available online for African-American women in any stage of breast cancer on new website. Online database allows teachers access to lesson plans and materials on a wide variety of topics. More     Board Update The ORA board has applied for a new grant for its modular learning system. It has approved new bylaws and is moving to a more formal "membership" process for the organization. Applications for new board memebers are being accepted.
